Condominium Remodel
Gateway Towers Condominiums The customer purchased three separate units totaling 4,000 square feet in a 26-story condominium building in downtown Pittsburgh. The unit had sweeping, panoramic views of the city from three out of four sides of the building. J. Francis Company began construction March 22 and the customer moved into the unit on July 20 -  the project was completed in the extremely short timeframe of six months.  J. Francis Company began the demolition by gutting the units and ripping out many of the 2-½ inch solid gunite (sprayed concrete) interior walls. The existing kitchens and bathrooms had to be demolished and hauled away. The customer's goal was a feeling of openness and space,  and the interior design focused on drawing light into the interior rooms from the long rows of windows. This challenge was met through the use of a curved glass block wall in the master bedroom/master bathroom. Custom art glass doors were utilized to enhance the natural lighting in hallways.  Interior design was provided by Bruce Adlard Interiors.

The kitchen and bath designer, Mike Bonato of Excel Kitchens worked with the customer to achieve their goal of maximum workspace, traffic flow, and open sightlines on the spectacular view for celebrating holidays and family events. The thoroughly modern kitchen features custom cherry Mouser cabinets with commercial grade appliances by Wolf, SubZero and Dacor. The custom cut granite countertops allowed for an abundance of workspace area. The living room features a custom-built limestone electric fireplace. As condominiums can be limited in storage space, cabinets were designed to not only camouflage the radiators, but also to enhance storage capacity.  The master bathroom includes granite countertops, Grohe Fauces, a custom etched glass shower door, & porcelain tile floor.

"Taking three units on the 20th floor and making one livable space was quite a project and as usual, you and your staff were exemplary in every way.  The Gateway Towers Condominiums building is particularly difficult to work in given all of the restrictions which you had to face, and yet, in the entire 6 months that you were here, we never had a complaint from building staff or neighbors.  Despite the messy job, the worksite was immaculate.  We especially appreciated your willingness to work with us, accommodate our almost constant need to change plans.  We always welcomed your suggestions, both practical and creative. Lots of them saved us money and time on the project.  We heartily recommend your firm to anyone who wants quality work done in a timely and courteous manner."
